Mandatory facemasks in hospitals and health centers in the Valencian Region

It is a fact that currently there is a huge incidence of respiratory viruses that plagues the different regions of Spain, being the Valencian Community the second highest in Spain (being surpassed by Castilla-La Mancha), forcing health to take measures.

Faced with the increase of flu, COVID and respiratory infections, it is again set in the Comunitat as mandatory mask in hospitals and health centers.

“Acute respiratory infections are a cyclical public health problem, with direct impact on people’s health and that, in periods of peak incidence, can compromise the response capacity of the health system for the care of people”, is the argument given for returning to mandatory protection in medical centers.

The measure had been put on the table on two occasions by the Health Councilor, Marciano Gómez. Doctors and epidemiologists were also calling for this measure in view of the growing wave of respiratory diseases, and they are also looking for the measure to be applied in public transport and large concentrations of people.

The return of the mask to the Valencian centers represents a return to a measure that was withdrawn 6 months ago from the medical scenarios. It was on July 4 when the Ministry of Health removed its obligation after a significant reduction in the number of cases of COVID. The Comunitat was not the only region to take this decision. Catalonia has also made it mandatory in hospitals and health centers.

Madrid rejects the obligation for the time being. The Spanish capital has ruled out last Friday to impose for now the mandatory use of masks in health centers due to the increased circulation of respiratory viruses, mainly influenza, and has stressed that the regional government has long been reminding its recommended use in the event of symptoms or for particularly vulnerable people, in addition to prioritizing vaccination.

We will keep you informed about the measures to be taken in the face of the growing wave of respiratory diseases.
